Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above
the manufacturer's AS-1 line or 5 inches if no AS-1 line is available.
Front Side Windows
All side windows must have at least 25% VLT and luminous reflectance of 25%
or less, over the entire surface area of the window.
Back Side Windows (Revised as of September 1, 2009)
These windows are completely exempted from regulation under the Texas
Transportation Code. Reference Legislation: Senate Bill 589
Rear "Back" Window
If vehicle has left and right outside mirrors, there is no minimum light
transmission requirement.
Exceptions:
Trucks, Vans and SUV's
Side windows to the rear of the driver, both left and right, have no minimum
requirement for light transmission
Window Tint Label
§ 547.613. SUNSCREENING DEVICES PERMITTED. A sunscreening device
must have a label that:
(1) is legible;
(2) contains information required by the department on light transmission and
luminous reflectance of the device; and
(3) is permanently installed between the material and the surface to which the
material is applied.
(4) label to be applied to every window to which a sunscreening devices
applied.
Note: This label should be provided by the installer.
What is Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Texas, this
percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the
combination of window film and the glass.
